My father and I lived together for many years after my parents divorced. No different from most boys my father and I clashed, fought, cursed and hurt each other continually when I was young and our family was still intact. The years I spent living with him were strangely refreshing. We both gave up the fight and became friends. I slept in the basement and he slept on the 2nd floor and we met in the kitchen occasionally. One day he casually made his way down to the basement and said, “I’m going to California to meet someone and I may bring her home.”
